Kari wrote a short story on my Marathon Running.....
Feet of many sizes gather upon the starting line, in position for the hardest race they would ever run. Only one stands out from all, Christopher Hines. Not only because his bald spot was agleam, but for the mask of concentration he wore while he was getting in stance. The cap gun snapped and thousands dashed though the cheering crowd as they made there way down the loose gravel path. They all winded through trees and bushes, hitting all water stations as they came about every two and a half miles, while he still pushed him self to the extreme. He drops the cup to the ground and progresses himself onward with others close behind. Deep into the course, distressed and consumed feelings begin to set in, making it difficult to proceed onward. Until finally he gets an eyeful of the neon orange tape set up only one hundred yards before. Adrenaline rushes through his veins as his feet begin to move more rapidly. Each step becoming torture upon his legs as well as a tremendous effort to go any further, but he sees his family cheering in the distance. Every ounce of might left in his body went into the last steps he had to take. Arms held high, his torso forced through the tape causing it to rip. With the feeling of relief, the twenty-six mile marathon was concluded. The only thought that crossed his mind was how it was worth everything in the end. |
